In 1947 the brothers Wilks, managers of the English factory of Rover, had the idea to manufacture an all-terrain vehicle. To do so, using the chassis of a Jeep Willys of the Second World War, coupled Rover, a gasoline engine, a gearbox and the rear axle and with it all they made the prototype. The idea did not prosper. In 1967, the brand became part of Leyland, which later became British Leyland, under the name of Rover Triumph. In 1970, the Range Rover was introduced. In 1975, British Leyland collapsed and was nationalized. During the process, it is recommended that Land Rover disassociate with Rover and be treated as different companies but contained within British Leyland. In 1986, British Leyland is renamed Rover Group. In April of that same year, Range Rover of North America Inc. was created to enter the American market. In 1994, the Rover group was absorbed by the German company BMW. That year also introduces the second generation of the Range Rover, while the original Range Rover changes to the name of Range Rover Classic, continuing with this until 1995. Currently the brand is linked to BMW GROUP.
